D

A half-breed spawn of vampire and human, the man known only as D is feared and despised for his mixed lineage. Unlike most dhampirs, D is able to pass as a normal human, though he is rarely accepted by them. Possessed of unearthly skill and great resourcefulness, D’s natural strengths make him an ideal Vampire Hunter. While it’s clear he feels for the humans he defends from the forces of darkness, D is emotionally remote, incapable of true closeness to anyone.

Leila Marcus

Youngest sibling of the Marcus Clan – rumored to be the Frontier’s most skilled and ruthless Hunters, having killed more than a hundred Nobility. Leila carries a silver gun that fires one micron long, .001 micron thick needles. She has a talent for vehicles, and drives a “battle car” fitted with various weaponry. Leila has been toughened by life with her brothers, but hides a longing for a simpler existence.

Baron Mayerling

A rare Noble praised by his subjects for his virtue, Mayerling absconds with the daughter of a wealthy village elder, and finds himself hunted by the Marcus Clan as a result. Mayerling believes his only hope is to flee with his prize to the off-world Claybourne States.

The Daughter

Daughter of a wealthy elder of Vishnu Village, this beautiful young girl accompanies Baron Mayerling on his race to the Claybourne States. Has she been kidnapped, or does she travel with Mayerling for reasons of her own?

Borgoff Marcus

Eldest brother of the Marcus Clan. Carries a powerful bow capable of firing multiple “chaser arrows” at a time, which always hit their mark. To track prey, Borgoff uses an unusual silver platter that replays images from his memory on its surface. When viewing the image, Borgoff can zero-in on the current location of a target.

Groveck Marcus

The Marcus Clan’s invalid, bedridden brother. “Grove” suffers seizures which incapacitate his body, but allow him to project an energy form many miles away. This energy being can direct and manipulate powerful lightning and perform other feats.

Kyle Marcus

The youngest brother of the Marcus Clan. Few people can wield his trademark, deadly crescent blades as effectively.

Nolt Marcus

Second-oldest brother of the Marcus Clan. Master of a steel-cored, telescoping hexagonal staff that can shatter stone or pierce other hard objects.

Caroline

Resident of the village of Barbarois, whom Baron Mayerling hires to defend him from his pursuers. Caroline has the power to mentally control inanimate things once she’s tasted the “life’s blood” of them – trees bend to her will with a drink of sap, and machinery comes to life with a trickle of gasoline past her lips. Caroline’s nature may have as much to do with a similarity to D as it does the strange village she comes from.

Mashira

A middle-aged defender from the village of Barbarois hired by Baron Mayerling. The unassuming Mashira hides a 500-year secret that gives him a certain kinship with D.

Benge

Hired from the village of Barbarois by Baron Mayerling, Bengé is a master of shadows who moves like a living shade from one shadow to another. To escape or mislead a pursuer, Bengé can create a mysterious shadow carriage that travels at fantastic speeds.

D\'s Left Hand

A symbiotic entity that appears as a shriveled, old face inside D’s left palm. Besides serving as a wise-cracking counterbalance to D’s cold personality, Left Hand possesses an array of mysterious powers to aid his host.

Barbarois Village Elder

Head of an uncanny, 10,000-year-old village whose inhabitants are said to be the interbred spawn of humans, demons and monsters. A sacred rule of the Barbarois, is that once they agree to a contract with anyone who seeks their aid, they will uphold it until death.

The Father

Wealthy elder of a remote Frontier village. When Baron Mayerling abducts his daughter, he hires the Marcus Clan to hunt the vampire Noble for a sum of 10,000,000 dalas.

Man-eating Mints

Fierce, flesh-eating ants that secrete a sticky adhesive.
